I did a post earlier this month on Tips and Toys for Road Trips, and today I talk a little more about why my mindset as the mother matters at Homemaker’s Challenge.

- If I’m focused on getting that book finished during the drive, am I going to be ready to engage my bored kids in the backseat?
- If my goal is to listen to a podcast I downloaded on the iPod, are my kids going to have fun listening?
Yes, there are times to do these things (usually for me, it’s if the kids all fall asleep at the same time!). But if my wants are my focus during the trip, I’m setting myself up for a miserable car ride!

(I know, motherhood is such good practice for developing a giving heart…sometimes I wish it wasn’t!)

Thank you for these ideas. I have read one post about tips on how to make screaming kid be calm on the plane and the idea of using candy is really amazing. These tips are so amazing too.
