Menu Plan Monday 8/8-8/15 and A Meal-Time Prayer

*check out A Wise Woman Builds Her Home for a giveaway I am sponsoring!

I am so excited to be a contributor at The Better Mom, a new website that just launched last week.  If you head over to the website and check out last week’s posts, there are a number of giveaways that are still accepting entries.

A super fun feature on The Better Mom is a two week menu plan, provided by Kelly at The Nourishing Home!  I’ll be incorporating a lot of the meals into my weekly menu plan.  Kelly’s dishes are marked with a *.  I always love new recipes!

At meals, we tend to sing short prayers that mostly came from Charlie’s family.  We thought we’d share these prayers with you, as they are a great way to include everyone at the table.  Check out the end of this post for a video of Charles singing one of these prayers.

  • breakfast – steel cut oatmeal
  • dinner – taco salad and * crockpot refried beans

  • breakfast – waffles
  • dinner – grilled chicken

  •  breakfast – granola and yogurt
  • dinner –  you guessed it!  Popcorn

  3. Mmmm love the huevos! I wish so much that Paul liked eggs.

I always love your breakfast menu too. Sounds so yummy. We are too rushed right now getting me and the kids out the door in the morning to do anything more than oatmeal or cereal. I think I need some toad in the hole this weekend. :)

What do I have this week.. mostly weight watchers things. Or things modified to be WW friendly.

Mon- Middle Eastern Beef Kebabs (WW)
    Tues- Minestrone soup
Weds- Enchiladas (not really WW friendly. I make modified enchiladas for me, lol)
    Thurs- African soup
    Fri- Anniversary!!!

I also have some fennel I’m trying to figure out how to use…..

  6. Oh, sigh. I have this dream to have my family sitting together eating breakfast each morning. I used to have the long term excuse that my husband had to leave the house far too early, but about a year and a half ago he got a job closer to home. Now I COULD do it….but I’m kindof overwhelmed by it. See, we are a big-time cereal family (except daughter #2 whose breaky the last two weeks has been a huge slice of watermelon), as was mine growing up. Going from the fast-and-dirty breakfast prep of pouring cereal and milk, to actually making something on the stove just seems–I know, I know, this sounds pathetic, but so much extra work and planning. I thought about starting out with just one breakfast a week….tried that last fall and it lasted all of…one week. Any tips?

    • I love that you started that out with, “oh, sigh.” It’s so perfect.
We’re the reverse of your family! My husband now goes to work too early for us all to eat together. But, the reason we all started eating together is because he used to work from home and that’s the way it was with his family growing up.
My kids would LOVE it if they got to eat cereal every day. We do eat it, but I try to save it for “emergencies”. (Like when the baby is up all night and I couldn’t wake up and it’s not fair to make them wait another 10 minutes when they’ve been waiting for 2 hours already…)
But I would say, maybe just make a different kind of breakfast when you really feel inspired. Sometimes I just CAN’T make whatever I planned for, and I have to tell myself that’s okay. Once in a while they have nuts and cheese and apples for breakfast (I try not to tell anyone when that happens).
And here’s a big confession, today ended up being a cereal day and my non-cereal-eater got to eat beans from dinner last night. That’s not very breakfast-y, but I’m pretty sure it’s good for him!
